MAY THE RACE BEGIN ….FINISH LINE IS OCTOBER 26 , 2016

The start of the Election trail is tomorrow.   Most of us have already started our behind the scene work and will be ready to start talking to the people and putting out our signs. ( Lawn Signs are allowed for 45 days before the election.) Tomorrow at 8 am. the Election office at City Hall will start to accept nomination papers and entry deposit fee.  Once you have submitted your papers and depos0it the campaign gets underway.  The press will start to hang around and get the stories of the day good or bad they will be watching.  Voters will start to see the people running for office going door to door and talking to the voters.  Names of those running will be showing up in all sorts of places so the voters get to know the names and draw their own opinions.   It is a Civic Election so those outside of the City of Saskatoon will not see much of the action and those outside of Saskatchewan will most likely not see any of the action   I will be very busy for the next two months running the campaign then cleaning up after the campaign.  Voters will tell me if I did a good job of self promotion and the numbers will be in  October 27,2016.   Win or lose I will get up that morning and start my day either on a very happy note or a somber day reflecting on the race just finished.  If I win I then start my new job as a Councillor on October 31st. 2016 and a busy four years … if not elected I continue my life as it was before Sept. 6th. 2016 with the knowledge that I am a bit more knowledgeable about the Elect0ion process.

Wish me luck and if you live in Ward 3 Saskatoon Saskatchewan please vote for me.   Take a look at   MARKMILLS.CA

SEE YOU IN NOVEMBER.

PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

I sat down at my desk tonight and thought to myself  Why am I   PROUD TO BE CANADAIN  ?

Many thoughts flow through my mind as I think of my  answers …  There are so many.

I was born in this country and have lived here my whole life.   So do not know first hand the suffering others have endured before Canada open her arms to accept them in. And we do so  That makes me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

I did not have to fight in a war to protect our freedom… Many Canadians did in WW1 and WW2.  To those men  and woman I give a heart filled Thank you, not only on  Nov.11th. But every day of the year.  Those not taken by  the war and still alive stand proud for what they did .   That makes me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

As we walk upon this great land we walk shoulder to  shoulder men and women equal in every way.  Women  share every trade and profession that men do there are no restrictions in our wonderful country.       That makes  me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

I can walk into a store and buy whatever food I need or want without being Rationed.  I do not have to be put on a waiting list to buy a car or truck and heck I can have as many as I want. That makes me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

I am able to walk down most streets in my Country  without fear trusting that there are not thugs hiding  around every corner to hurt me.  And if there are the odd people out there who do not live by the law I am  protected by our Local and National Police Officers Men Women and Dogs who keep our country safe.   That makes me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

If we have a disaster somewhere in the country men and women from every part of the country come to those in  need to offer aid and help to put the disaster to rest.  We help each other without hesitation and with open arms.  That makes me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

I have a job and pay my taxes and am happy to do it  as the Country gives me so much in return.  I flick a  switch and I have light,  In the summer I turn a dial and my house is cooled and in winter the same dial turned  the other  way heats my home.  Taps supply me with  water to drink and wash with.  I d not have to walk miles to haul water it is available in my own home.  That makes me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

I walk down the street and pass my fellow man and say  Hello  I do not know him but that is okay we are all  friendly in our country.      That makes me PROUD TO BE  CANADIAN

When we become sick or lose our jobs and have no  money the Government and charities help us get back on our feet.  Homeless people only need to ask for help and it is there.          That makes me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

I am not forced to join the Military it is my choice if I  wish to do so. A freedom offered by those who fought for our rights many years ago.  That makes me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

I am allowed to vote for those who run for public office  they are not chosen by the rich or it is not there birth  right.  They are elected by the people for the people.   Those who do not vote make me sad that they give up  that right. But I vote and  That makes me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

We have at our disposal the services of Health Care  workers, Emergency Service workers, and city and  government employees who serve us regardless of our  stature in life.   That makes me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

I stand at the singing of our National Anthem, when our Flag is raised and lowered.  I stand in Silence during our November 11th. Remembrance Day Service. It is what I believe is right and good.  That makes me PROUD TO BE CANADIAN

SIR NATHAMIEL (THE FATHER) in the collection of five Wade banks given away as promotions in a childrens bank account program to open an account at National Bank ( Natwest ).  These ceramic banks were made by Wade England.  Originally the Sunshine Ceramic Company had the contract  and could not meet the demand for the banks.  This resulted in Wade taking over production.  The whole collection is shown on the site and while searching to find all five banks I ended up with some extras a group picture of all my Wade pigs will be shown on site in the future.  SIR NATHAMIEL measures 6 1/2″ high x  4 /1/2″ long x 4 1/2″ deep.  The coin slot is in the back of the head and the coin release is on the bottom with a thick plastic stopper marked with “NATWEST”  across it.  WADE ENGLAND is marked on the bottom of most of my collection except for one Woody made by Sunshine.   Banks not marked with Wade on the bottom may not be reproductions but some of the original 400 of each made by SUNSHINE  CERAMICS with such  a low number produced these are considered rare and hence have a much higher value. (Except Woody which being the first bank received in collection had a much higher production run by Sunshine.)   These banks were added to collection through numerous purchases on E Bay April 5th. to 11th. 2016  Excellent condition value $35.00 to $55.00 for Wade production  $500.00 for Sunshine original production run.  G

BABY WOODY

NATWEST PIG COLLECTION 4

Sunshine Ceramics started production of the Natwest Piggy Banks in early 1982 and all of the pigs in the original collection were modeled by Paul Cardew  based on the designs provided to him.  The company could not keep up with the high demand for the banks and production was turned over to WADE Ceramics Ltd.   It is believed that Sunshine produced 400 of the five set collection which were introduced at selected Natwest branches around the country (England).  It is also noted that they also produced about 100.000 of WOODY before ending there production at the end of 1983.   Future production was done by Wade Ceramics until the end of the promotion all Wade banks are marked on the bottom “WADE ENGLAND”.  These banks were added to collection through numerous purchases on E Bay April 5th. to 11th. 2016  Excellent condition value $35.00 to $55.00 for Wade production or  $100.00 for Sunshine original production run.   Note the woody was the first bank given when the new account was opened Sunshine produced over 100,000 woody banks and only 400 of each of the other four in the collection those 400 banks are very rare and will fetch a high price if they come on the market.   G

However many of the Sunshine Woodys have an embossed “B” or “W” marking on the bottom.

SET OF FIVE WADE NATWEST PIG FAMILY MONEY BOXES

This set of five Pig family money boxes comprises Sir Nathaniel [father], Lady Hilary [mother] Maxwell [boy],Annabel [girl] and Woody [the baby] produced by Wade for the National Westminster Bank and issued between 1984 and 1989.

Made in England I have collected the full collection and have shown them one by one in here this is the whole group together with few details about each bank.  When you opened an account and put 3 pounds in it they started you off with 2 pounds going in your account and 1 pound to start you in the bank promotion.  This promotion was only available to children 19 years old and younger.  So your first bank was baby Woody which came with all sorts of neat paper products for your children to use. Account statements were sent out twice a year on the 10th. of Jan. and 10th. of June as your account grew 25 pounds per statement you would receive the next bank in the mail.  You were only allowed one bank every six months if the goals were reached so to get the full collection would take over two years.  Once you received the SIR NATHAMIEL BANK you became a member of the 100 club and received invitations via newsletters to enter contests.

This was a wonderful way to encourage young children to save and learn about saving and form the habit of saving.   My banks in this group were all purchased separate and most from the UK and one from Malta.  Maxwell was bought from a local picker (C. Hamel) and got me hooked that  I wanted the rest of the group.

P1020200 P1020201

All other made by Sunshine were only produced in one run of 400 each and a Rare so fetch a higher price.  Sunshine started production in 1982 and could not keep up with demand for the banks and  stopped production in 1983.  Wade took over the Natwest order and produced the banks until the end of the promotion in 1989.  G

Harry Colebourn and Winnie, 1914

Christopher Milne had named his toy bear after Winnie, a Canadian  black bear  he often saw at London Zoo, and “Pooh”, a swan they had met while on holiday. The bear cub was purchased from a hunter for $20 by Canadian Lieutenant Harry Colebourn in White River, Ontario, Canada, while enroute to England during the First World War. He named the bear “Winnie” after his adopted hometown in Winnipeg,  Manitoba. “Winnie” was surreptitiously brought to England with her owner, and gained unofficial recognition as The Fort Garry Horse regimental mascot. Colebourn left Winnie at the London Zoo while he and his unit were in France; after the war she was officially donated to the zoo, as she had become a much loved attraction there
