The  manek-neko   (Japanese : 招き猫?, literally “beckoning cat“) is a common Japanese figurine (lucky charm, talisman) which is often believed to bring good luck  to the owner. In modern times, they are usually made of  ceramic or plastic. The figurine depicts a cat  (traditionally a calico Japanese Bobtail )  beckoning with an upright paw, and is usually displayed—often at the entrance—of shops, restaurants pachinko parlors, and other businesses. Some of the sculptures are electric or battery-powered and have a slow-moving paw beckoning. The maneki-neko is sometimes also called the welcoming cat, lucky cat, money cat, happy cat, beckoning cat, or fortune cat in English.

Maneki-neko comes in different colors, styles and degrees of ornateness. Common colors are white, black, gold and sometimes red. In addition to ceramic figurines, maneki-neko can be found as piggy banks,  house-plant pots, and miscellaneous ornaments, as well as large statues. It is also sometimes called the “Chinese lucky cat” due to its popularity among Chinese merchants

Every McDonalds  till in Canada was assigned one of these banks to collect donations for Ronald McDonald house.  They came out in about 2010 and I contacted the corporate office to see if I could buy one of the wonderful banks.  The cost was close to $200.00 for which  they gave me the bank ,mounting hardware and of course the keys.  I was thrilled that they allowed me to purchase this bank so gave Ronald McDonald house a nice donation that year.  This bank sits with my two hamburger banks on each side.  If they will sell you one.  After searching the web for information about this bank or other images none were found.  I assume this will become a rare bank in the future.  Excellent condition filling it again to donate to The house again.   Value $200.00 to $500.00  One to Watch.
