FIRE ORANGE CERAMIC OWL

I stand corrected on this banks history and where it came from.  In my dealings with Rosey  from Saskatoon this week   ( I purchased a three monkey bank from her)  In our conversation I directed her to my web page and she supplied me with the proper information about this bank.  A big Thank you Rosey for your assistance.

This  ceramic bank is a very bark brown with orange glaze layered on top and sides that runs when fired leaving the artist with various effects.  This orange glaze flowed to make the results that look like flames.  When I saw this item at a garage sale I had to have it in my collection. It has “SASKATOON SASK. ” written on back prior to being fired. Coin slot in top back of head with coin release on bottom with plug.  Excellent condition   Value $15.00 to $35.00   B

E Mail from Rosey about this bank :

looked through some of your Banks, and I can ID your ceramic owl Bank.  It was made by CANADIAN pottery called CANUCK POTTERY, probably from around the 1970’s with those glaze colors ” Canuck Pottery, Ltd. – Saint John, N.B. then c. 1964 Labelle, Quebec. Operation was a continuation of Foley Pottery. Sons, Percy and Alponse, of Fenwick Foley were owners. Factory moved to Labelle, Quebec following a disastrous fire at the Saint John location (Bayside Drive also, but in a newly constructed building 2 miles from original Foley home) in 1963. Both white and red clay items produced. Operations ceased in 1970’s….””
